Sinopsis:
1644, París. Jean-Baptiste Poquelin, conocido como Molière , tiene 22 años y todavía no es el escritor reconocido como padre y maestro de la sátira cómica, el autor de El misántropo y Tartufo, un dramaturgo a la altura de Shakespeare y Sófocles. De hecho, no es más que un actor sin éxito. Su “Ilustre Teatro”, compañía fundada por él un año antes, está en bancarrota.Acosado por los acreedores, es encarcelado, liberado y encerrado de nuevo. Cuando por fin consigue salir, desaparece. Ningún historiador ha podido descubrir dónde fue ni qué hizo antes de su reaparición, varios meses después, en una gira de su compañía por provincias. Una gira que duraría 13 años y culminaría con el triunfal regreso de Molière a París en 1658.Pero, ¿qué fue de Molière durante estos misteriosos meses?. Descubrimos que Molière ha podido salir de la cárcel gracias a un burgués adinerado, el Sr. Jourdain, que ha pagado las deudas del joven actor a cambio de que este le enseñe interpretación. Jourdain, que quiere ser famoso, está encaprichado con la deliciosa, aunque venenosa, Célimène, a cuyo salón acuden enamorados e intelectuales. Pero la aventura debe mantenerse en secreto para que no se entere la esposa de Jourdain, Elmire, una mujer maravillosa de la que Molière se enamora perdidamente.Por desgracia, Jourdain ha presentado a Molière como el Sr. Tartufo, un tutor de lo más serio, para justificar su presencia, y Elmire no soporta a este sabelotodo que ha invadido su hogar. Atrapado en esta situación insostenible, Molière pasa por toda clase de vicisitudes que acabarán abriéndole los ojos y la mente. Sus experiencias y su pasión por Elmire le convertirán en un gran dramaturgo.
