Sinopsis:
En Roma, al amanecer, cuando todo el mundo duerme, un hombre está despierto. Ese hombre es Giulio Andreotti (Toni Servillo). Está despierto porque tiene que trabajar, escribir libros, moverse en los círculos de moda, y por último, aunque no menos importante, para rezar. Tranquilo, astuto e inescrutable, hace más de cuarenta años que Andreotti es sinónimo de poder en Italia. A principios de los años noventa, este hombre impasible pero sugerente, ambiguo pero tranquilizador, está preparado para asumir su séptimo mandato de Primer Ministro sin arrogancia y sin humildad. Andreotti se acerca a los setenta años y es un gerontócrata al que, con todos los atributos de Dios, no le da miedo nadie y no conoce el significado de intimidación, ya que está acostumbrado a verla en las caras de todos sus interlocutores. Su satisfacción es opaca, impalpable. Para él, la satisfacción es poder, con el que mantiene una relación simbiótica. El poder como a él le gusta. Inquebrantable e inmutable, desde el principio. Emerge indemne de todo: de las batallas electorales, de las masacres terroristas, de las acusaciones calumniosas. Nada de esto le toca, nada le cambia. Hasta que la Mafia, el contrapoder más poderoso de Italia, le declaró la guerra. Entonces las cosas cambiaron. Incluso para el enigmático, el inmortal Andreotti. Pero la cuestión es la siguiente: ¿cambian de verdad o sólo en apariencia? Estamos seguros de una cosa: es difícil empañar la figura de Andreotti, el hombre que sabe de qué va el mundo mucho mejor que cualquiera de nosotros.
