Sinopsis:
La soltera Kate Holbrook (Tina Fey), una brillante mujer de negocios, siempre ha antepuesto la vida profesional a la personal. Kate no se da por vencida y decide que Angie Ostrowiski (Amy Poehler), una chica de clase trabajadora del sur de Filadelfia, haga de madre de alquiler. Parece simple... Después de que la fría directora (Sigourney Weaver) del centro de madres de alquiler le comunique que Angie está embarazada, Kate es poseída por un auténtico frenesí: lee un sinfín de manuales sobre el cuidado de los niños, redecora el piso para el bebé y empieza a investigar dónde están los mejores colegios. Pero su perfectamente organizada estrategia se derrumba cuando la Baby Mama aparece en su puerta porque se ha quedado en la calle... Una fuerza imparable se topa con un objeto inamovible cuando la organizada y lógica Kate intenta convertir a la vibrante Angie en la perfecta embarazada.
